BRITISH Speedway’s hugely popular Championship Pairs event remains at the traditional home next season – and with a new title sponsor.

Somerset will host the showpiece meeting on Friday July 17 – the night before the British Grand Prix in Cardiff.

And it will now be known as the Travel Plus Tours Championship Pairs with the world’s largest and well known speedway tours company joining up with the British Speedway Promoters’ Association.

BSPA Chairman Rob Godfrey said: “The Pairs is always a popular event with fans making their way to Cardiff for the Grand Prix weekend, it’s the perfect curtain raiser.

“Somerset is the perfect location, they always do a great job staging the meeting, and now we have James Easter and his team from Travel Plus Tours supporting the event it’s the icing on the cake.

“We look forward to welcoming James and of course all the travelling fans from around the country.”

James Easter, head of the Suffolk based operation, said: “This event has over the years become immensely popular, with supporters taking in the meeting en route to Cardiff, and each year our clients have helped swell the attendance, so it makes a great fit for us.

“Debbie Hancock at Somerset has always been easy to work with and her enthusiasm has encouraged us to become more involved.

“We will also be running a competition for one of our lucky clients to be included in the trophy presentation.

“Many of our clients, including an incoming Tour with Peter White’s Australian group, stay in the lovely city of Bristol, and with the Oak Tree Arena just a short trip away, this makes the British Grand Prix a wonderful peak summer destination.”
