MAY LOOKING FOR A MORE ALL-ROUND PERFORMANCE TO KICK OFF LEAGUE CAMPAIGN

Thursday May 16, 2019
Following their early exit from the Knockout Cup, the 'Cases' Somerset Rebels will be keen to get their league programme off to a promising start when they travel to Scunthorpe on Friday night (7.30pm).

With team manager Garry May looking for a more all-round performance, the Rebels will be in no doubt what is expected of them, with May calling for greater sharpness from the gates. "We were too often second best on Wednesday night and that put unnecessary pressure on what was already a tough ask. We have to learn from that and make things a bit easier for ourselves rather than having to chase meetings. We are starting the league fixtures now and that means riders need to step up to the plate. There have been a number of decent individual performances this season but we somehow need to knit them all together, and I really hope all the lads are behind me on that."

Whilst Somerset will be unchanged, Scunthorpe have called up Joe Lawlor to replace Josh Bailey, who has taken the decision to take a break from racing. The Scorpions will also be hoping that Jake Allen is given a clean bill of health after the former Rebel suffered a spectacular crash at Ipswich on Thursday, an incident that May himself witnessed as he had taken a 'guest booking' by standing in for Poole's team manager Neil Middleditch.
"Jake did well to get off his machine when he did otherwise it would have been a far more serious outcome for him, but he couldn't continue racing. I believe he was going to get checked out and so we will have to wait and see if he gets the all-clear to go against us tomorrow."

Scunthorpe are unbeaten in five home meetings this season and are led by Josh Auty who himself suffered a wrist injury last week in the Scorpions last fixture, but has been declared in the their starting seven.

Scorpions: Josh Auty, Danny Ayres, Jason Garrity, Stefan Nielsen, Jake Allen, Ryan Kinsley, Joe Lawlor
